Learn About the North Country Trail from the Experts

What a great way to enjoy Barry county and start on your hiking journey with a local iconic trail. The North Country Trail Noonday Chapter will help us with hiking basics and getting started correctly.

  • What are the written and unwritten rules of the trail?
  • Do we have to hike the whole trail at once?
  • Can camping happen on the trail?
  • How to handle meeting people, dogs, horses and even wild animals?

The North Country National Scenic Trail crosses Barry County on its way as the longest in the National Trails System, stretching 4,800 miles across eight states from North Dakota to Vermont. The Chief Noonday Chapter invites people to join their monthly group hikes. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, NCT can use your skills or help you develop new ones!

Learn about “Hike the County Challenge” and hike the Trail through one, two, or all three counties during the calendar year. There is no charge; simply register and report your progress to hikethecounty@gmail.com.

As you complete each county, send NCT your name (and trail name if you desire), address, email, and phone number to receive your patch.
