HPL works hard to provide features and resources to all patrons to make the library as accessible as possible. We want everyone to enjoy using the library with the least amount of difficulty.

Key Accessible Features Include:
- Automatic door openers on both main entrances from the north parking lot and State St. to the south.
- Automatic door openers on all three downstairs public restrooms: family, men's and women's.
- Diaper changing table in the family restroom downstairs.
- Accessible parking spaces in the north parking lot with ramp access to the north entrance.
- Elevator.
- ReciteMe Assistive Toolbar on the website allowing users to customize how they interact with the library online.
Coming Soon:
- September 2026: Accessible parking spaces on State St. in front of the library, with ramp access to the sidewalk.
- September 2026: Assistive listening via FM broadcast and Wi-Fi for 2nd floor Community Room events.
Key Accessible Materials and Resources Include:
- Large print books in the adult, kids, tween and teen collections.
- One FREE 3D-printed assistive device to patrons in need monthly.
- eBooks and audiobooks via the Libby app for mobile and desktop use.
- Lighted book magnifier in the Library of Things.
- Translator pen to aid with dyslexia and other reading challenges in the Library of Things.
- Information on the State of Michigan's Braille and Talking Book Library.
Coming Soon:
- Fall 2026: Sensory kits for checkout and items available for in-library use.
- Fall 2026: High-interest, low-reading level books in the adult collection.
