We host all kinds of events here at the library. See below and check out the Calendar for a complete listing.

Here at the Library we host events for all ages and interests. Many are Library sponsored while others are held here but organized by the community.

Early Literacy and Kids

  • ON HOLD DURING COVID - Toddler Story Time: every Tuesday at 10:30am. Note no story time when schools are closed and in August. Check the calendar and Facebook for schedule changes.
  • ON HOLD DURING COVID -Preschool Story Time: every Friday at 10:30am. Note no story time when schools are closed and in August. Check the calendar and Facebook for schedule changes.
  • Itsy Bitsy Book Club: every Wednesday on Zoom, join the Facebook group. Geared towards babies and toddlers, but all ages are welcome!
  • LEGO Club: meets the 3rd Monday of every month at 4:00pm; Lego play for all ages of children using Library Legos. Adults must be accompanied by a child.
  • Summer Reading: early June through mid-August with weekly events. Check the calendar for more information closer to June.
  • March is Reading Month: every March we celebrate reading for all ages with a focus on early literacy. Special programs and events happen throughout the month.
  • Reading is Fundamental (RIF): Our Youth Services Librarian and volunteers visit Head Start and Great Start Readiness Program classes to read to kids, create crafts and distribute books for the children to keep.
  • Reach Out and Read (ROAR): Volunteers from the library read once a week to Young 5s and Kindergarten students who need extra literacy support. This program is in all four Hastings elementary schools.

Book Clubs

  • Novel Ideas: meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 12:30pm.

Gaming

  • Chess: meets every Tuesday evening at 5:30pm.
  • Mahjong: meets every Tuesday evening at 5:30pm.
  • Board Games: meets the 1st Monday of the month at 5:30pm.
  • Dungeons & Dragons: meets the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00am.

Activities for All

  • Quilting Passions: meets every Monday at 10:00am to work on individual and group ongoing crafts and/or quilting, often with a Potluck lunch.
  • Movie Memories & Milestones: meets every Thursday evening at 5:00pm; join them to watch classic movies from the 1930s through the 1950s.
  • Acoustic Jam Sessions: meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 5:00pm. All are welcome to come play an instrument, sing along or just listen.
  • ON HOLD DURING COVID - Murder Mystery Club: meets the 3rd Monday of each month at 6:00pm. Join the group or bring your own team to analyze the clues and solve a new mystery every month.
  • History Hounds: weekly Zoom presentations on Michigan history sponsored by the Michigan Historical Society. See the calendar for dates and topics.
  • ON HOLD DURING COVID - Baby Cafe: meets every Thursday at 10:00am. Join new moms at this breast feeding club.

Teens

  • ON HOLD DURING COVID - Anime Club: meets the 4th Saturday of each month at 12:30pm.
  • ON HOLD DURING COVID - Teen Advisory Board (TAB): meets the second Friday of each month at 4:00pm. This group helps with library programs, art projects and fundraising.
  • Video Games: Occasional events across the year, including 24 hours of gaming.
