What Do We Do with Donated Materials?

The Friends of the Hastings Public Library process all donated reading and A/V materials. Items in good shape might be given to the library to add to the collection or placed in the Friends Store for sale to raise money in support of the library.

All other items will go onto the Free Cart for patrons to take home and enjoy.

Monetary Donations

The library can accept donations via cash, check or PayPal. Checks should be made out to Hastings Public Library.

Patrons can make general donations to support library programs, operations or material acquisition. Patrons can specify what they wish their donation to be used for.

Patrons can also sponsor purchase of specific materials, what we call a SHARE. Once purchased, those items will receive a bookplate indicating the sponsoring patron who will also be the first to use the item before other patrons may check it out.

See the PayPal donation button at the bottom of every page if needed.

Memorial Donations

Some patrons wish to purchase specific items or make general donations in memory of someone else. These items will receive a bookplate indicating who the item is in memory of. See us here at the library for assistance.

Library of Things

Patrons wishing to donate items in support of our Library of Things can speak with the Director, Assistant Director, Children's Librarian or Circulation Supervisor. New or gently used items in good condition that can meet the needs of our community will be considered for addition.

Other Donations

Donations of other items not mentioned above should be discussed with the Director, Children's Librarian or Circulation Supervisor depending on the item.

These items might include art supplies/equipment, office supplies/equipment, technology items, stocks, bonds and other non-cash/check monetary ways to support library operations.

Note: all non-monetary donations will require a Deed of Gift to also be completed.
