Michigan Electronic Library (MeL) and Braille & Talking Book Library (BTBL)

Braille & Talking Book Library

Do you, a family member or anyone you know struggle to read, even large print? Perhaps you just can't hold a book?

The Braille & Talking Book Library may be able to help.

With over 100,000 books and magazines available through the mail or via download with their BARD app, they provide library service to any resident of the United States or American citizen living abroad who is unable to read or use regular print materials as a result of temporary or permanent visual or physical limitation. This includes those who are blind or have a visual or physical disability that prevents them from reading or handling print materials. They serve patrons of all ages.

Qualifying eligibility includes:

  • Visual impairment that limits the ability to comfortably read print books
  • Perceptual or reading disability
  • Physical disability that makes it hard to hold, manipulate a book, or move the eyes as needed to read

Qualifying conditions include:

  • Parkinson's Disease
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Diabetes
  • Tremors
  • Broken Arms
  • Stroke
  • Dyslexia
  • and more.....

Applications can be filled out via PDF available and certified by doctors or welfare personnel, even librarians!
