Computer classes 2012

January- computer basics

1/9-Mousing and more

Become a “Mouse master” with this class for beginners that
include general typing information.

1/16-“How do I turn this darn thing
on?”

For adults with limited experience using computers, this
class will cover basic components of computers. Use and operation of the mouse,
(right click, left click, double click) introduction to saving and retrieving
documents

1/30-Where’s my stuff?

This basic class includes simple computer terms, opening and
closing windows, saving and opening files, and other essential skills for get
started in Office 10.

 

February-Internet

2/6-Blogs, Wikis, Social
networking and more.

Blogs, wikis, media sharing, instant messaging, chat, and
social websites, like twitter and Facebook, are a few of the topics covered in
this class.  Learn how to use these tools
and visit examples of each.

Prerequisites: Students must be experienced with the mouse
and Internet

2/13-Online Genealogy

Gets hands-on experience utilizing numerous online genealogy
resources to research your family history.

Prerequisites: Students must be experienced with the mouse
and Internet.

2/20-“To sell or not to sell”

Introduction to craigslist, eBay, etsy and more.

Prerequisites: Students must be experienced with the mouse
and Internet.

 

March-Microsoft

3/5-Microsoft Word

Learn how to create a document using Microsoft Word.  Participants will learn how to enter and
delete text, save a document, format fonts, and use other text features.

Prerequisites: Participants must have basic typing skills
and know how to use the mouse.

3/12-Micorsoft Excel

Learn the basics of creating and editing a spreadsheet as
well as working with simple formulas and functions.

Prerequisites: Participants must have basic typing skills
and know how to use the mouse.

3/19-Microsoft PowerPoint

Learn how to make a slideshow presentation using this
Microsoft Office program.

Prerequisites: Participants must have basic understanding of
Microsoft Word and the Internet.

April- Computer basics

May-Job Seekers

5/7-Office Programs for the job
seeker

This class emphasizes the skills, vocabulary, and software
that are most helpful for the job seeker, including a brief introduction to
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.

Prerequisites: Participants must be experienced with the
mouse and Internet.

5/14-Job & Career Accelerator
Part 1

Job seekers at all education and experience levels will find
this program helpful.  In the first part
of this two week series we will build and customize your resume, access tools
to write effective cover letters.

Prerequisites: Must be able to use a mouse and be
comfortable navigating the internet.

5/21-Job & Career Accelerator
Part 2

In the second part of this two week series, you will access
valuable checklists for managing your job search, access tutorials for computer
skills, math, reading, writing, and grammar skills, and learn how to
effectively search the internet to access online classified ads from local
newspapers and corporate websites.

Prerequisites: Must be able to use a mouse and be
comfortable navigating the internet.

 

June-Gadgets Workshop

6/4-Downloading e-books and e-audio
books

Participants will learn the ins and outs of downloading a
book to your computer, iPod, or mp3 player.

Prerequisites: Must be able to use a mouse and be
comfortable navigating the internet.

6/11- Downloading e-books and e-audio
books

Participants will learn the ins and outs of downloading a
book to your e-reader.

Prerequisites: Must be able to use a mouse and be
comfortable navigating the internet.

6/18- Downloading e-books and e-audio
books
