Book Discussion

The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother, is the autobiography and memoir of James McBride first published in 1995; it is also a tribute to his mother. The chapters alternate between James McBride's descriptions of his early life and first-person accounts of his mother Ruth's life, mostly taking place before her son was born. McBride depicts the conflicting emotions that he endured as he struggled to discover who he truly was, as his mother narrates the hardships that she had to overcome as a white, Jewish woman who chose to marry a black man in 1942.

Build A Better World – Give Plants, Give Time

GARDENERS, CAN YOU SHARE? Our rain garden is also 10 years old and needs revitalizing. Can you share some of your native plants for our efforts? We are looking for specific plants for the rain garden that attract pollinators - bees, butterflies, hummingbirds. Specifically we need: Bee Balm, Milkweed, Joe Pye Weed, Marsh Marigold, Purple Coneflower, Blazing Star, and Mullein. We will accept any of the many other plants that attract pollinators. Our rain garden is full sun and has periods of being quite dry and then gets lots of rainwater off our roof and parking. We can provide pots and need your donations identified with plant markers. Thank You for your continued generosity.
